A Matt Talbot retreat is for people of all faiths and is an opportunity for recovering alcoholics to enhance their spirituality and sober way of life. The people who attend these retreats are all recovering alcoholics and attend the 12-step program through AA. It is a fellowship with a common bond in our Lord where you can share and receive help and support spiritually and to receive strength from each other and from God.
A Retreat Master, who is usually a recovering alcoholic and trained in spiritual matters, provides conferences on various topics several times during the weekend, bringing valuable insights into the spiritual element of the disease of alcoholism. The Matt Talbot retreat is private and everything is confidential. There is no affiliation between AA and Matt Talbot Retreats; however, Matt Talbot Retreats are intended to foster and enhance spiritual recovery as suggested by AA's Twelve-Step Program.
Our next Matt Talbot retreat is scheduled for October 13-15, 2023. Our Retreat Master will be Scott McFarland. Scott was born in Kankakee, IL and grew up in an alcoholic home with two alcoholic parents. In 1981, Scott started in AA and has been sober for 30 years. Scott has conducted several retreats and has studied the art of meditation and its application for people in recovery.
Pre-registration for this retreat is required. The retreat commences with check-in between 2:00 - 4:00pm on Friday, October 13 and concludes at noon on Sunday, October 15. The weekend schedule includes five conferences and time for meditation/prayer. An opportunity to attend Mass on Sunday at 11:15am is offered; however, not obligatory. All meals are included.
