OLPH is located in south Sarasota County, bordering the Myakka River. The combination of the power of Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022 and the subsequent flooding of the Myakka River resulted in significant water inflow onto our property and the roads, buildings, statues, and prayer decks within. Our property, and every building was heavily impacted by the flooding.
Remediation was completed in December 2022. In Q1 2023, we secured our contractor(s) and commenced the reconstruction process. We began hosting group retreats and visitors starting September 5, 2023, and are now fully operational.
The impact of Hurricane Ian was devastating, as our property was enveloped with water brought on by rains and the subsequent flooding of the Myakka River. Every building took in water, many trees were toppled and bereft of leaves, and roads were impassible for over 9 days due to water and debris. Below are some pictures of the initial impact of Hurricane Ian on OLPH.
May Christ and Our Lady of Perpetual Help continue to watch over us,
now that we have begun again!
