Shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Our newest addition is the Shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This central shrine originated with several donations that were made to memorialize Fr. Charlie Mallen, C.Ss.R., the founding director of the retreat center. A large marble statue of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is the centerpiece of the shrine. The backdrop of the statue consists of a single large piece of limestone and several Italian cypress trees that produce a vaulted cathedral effect. The back of the limestone depicts the crucifixion. There is a small waterfall at Mary's feet which is stunningly lit at night.
Blessed Sacrament Lake and the Stations of the Cross
The bridge and fountain at Blessed Sacrament Lake afford visitors a diverse landscape for their reflection. Surrounding the lake is a beautiful shaded path with the Stations of the Cross , providing another opportunity for retreatants to meditate on the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.
The Bell Tower
The Bell Tower stands tall on the Retreat Center grounds and is located on the path to the St. Joseph Chapel. From the rising to the setting of the sun, the bells ring throughout the day reminding all that OLPH is holy ground. The tower is illuminated in the evening, providing an ever-present glow.
Holy Family Shrine
The Holy Family Shrine, donated by the Cursillo Movement in the Diocese of Venice, is an original creation of sculptor Paul Gaczy. The statue took eight months to complete. It is sculpted in crushed stone and weights approximately 2.5 tons. It is a favorite place for quiet prayer and contemplation.
Rosary Walk
The Rosary Walk is located across from the Holy Family Shrine. This shaded, tranquil path along the Myakka River provides retreatants the opportunity to meditate and reflect on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary or simply walk the path in silence.
Prayer Decks
Prayer Decks are located throughout the OLPH grounds and offer all visitors a quiet place to read, pray, reflect, and meditate.
